Digging through piles of old items at my parent’s house a few days ago, I found some photos (above). When I left for college in Montana, my dad gave me his nice Canon 35mm camera. I knew nothing about how to use it, aside from pushing the button and changing the film and lenses.
It was fall of 1998, and this was my first of many solo road trips with that camera. I spent the night driving through mountain passes, snapping a photo here and there, and eventually stopped to sleep in my car along a remote road (sorry, mom and dad). My car may have also run out of gas on that trip. ….And perhaps, I failed to tell anyone that I was going. That trip spawned a lot of anger from my boyfriend and parents. I, however, had a wonderful adventure.
I still love roadtrips, and for the most part, my smarts and skills have improved (I won’t tell anyone about that night with the bear, or the times I got my car stuck in the middle of nowhere if you won’t).
Do you have a memorable road trip?
