Living in Minnesota has its perks – fall foliage is one of them. I missed some of the most simple things when I was living out west: fireflies, crickets, the smell of a humid day, and fall tree colors. I decided to take some vacation time and make a trip up north even before hearing that the colors are supposed to be the best they’ve been in 10 years. I researched campgrounds and cabins and motels for hours on end until I found an affordable pet-friendly place with a lake view (not easy during peak color season). My vacation came and went, and my trip never happened. Not that he can help it, but my big furry friend has a tendency to interfere with plans. A $200 eye infection the day before we were set to leave effectively ate up my entire trip budget. So, here we are at home, me and 80 pounds of grumpy “don’t come near me with that bottle of eye drops or I’ll chomp your arm off” dog. Oh well, I’m sure the leaves will be pretty next year.
My fall colors vacation.
