I decided to take a break from the painting I began a few weeks ago (a photo reproduction) to create this quick wintery abstract (not something typical for me) in shades of blue, gray, and gold. Not loving the final product, but it was fun to paint and provided some great ideas for my next project!
Abstract Winter Forest {Painting}

I tend to do that too. I find that doing a photo reproduction takes a lot of intricate work and “thinking”. I often take a break and do a quick abstract painting too, usually with a palette knife, just to clear my mind. Great work, by the way.
Thanks, and exactly – it is nice to put the ‘thinking’ on hold! I love that you can ‘let loose’ with the palette knife, I always try too hard to control it. :)
Really fun painting. Whimsical with the circles on both the trees and snow, but it doesn’t leave me wondering what the painting actually is – it is clearly birch trees in the snow, and it’s really gorgeous :) Looking forward to seeing your photo repro… what is it, btw?
A hint, maybe?
Thanks, Natalie! The other painting is another winter nature scene (at least I’m predictable with my subject :)) So different from the stuff I painted way back when we were young(er)… do you ever paint?
The pleasure of doing is sometimes more important than the end result so glad the process inspired you
Precisely – I tell others the same thing! :) I have a whole set of paintings that I dislike from a visual perspective, but they are some of the most meaningful. Art therapy is a magical thing…
And writing therapy too. Have a fabulous day.
It’a a beautiful painting – I didn’t even know you painted! Your blog has been an inspiration to me. I’ve had a very inactive blog for awhile – just need to get off my arse and write. Love yours, Heather :)
Aww, thanks Abbi! I would love to check out your blog out if you’re willing to share the address. :) If you’d like to do a DIY guest posting sometime about something crafty, give me a shout.
Your painting is beautiful!
Thanks! :)
